IMPROVE GRADUATION RATES

Washington D.C. has made progress in recent years by improving the graduation rate to 64%. While 64% is an improvement, until we have a 100% graduation rate and every student is successful, there will be a need to transform our city schools.

FOCUS ON COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS

Upon graduation from high school DC students should be not just college ready, but career ready.  More career and technical education offerings are needed so students who graduate with a D.C. high school diploma are able to make a job their priority on day one of their adult lives.

MORE STUDENT SUPPORT IN SCHOOLS

Class sizes are big and students within classes have varying levels of education, especially in the subject areas of reading and math. Our students often need more individualized attention than teachers can currently give. Without expanding the budget, I propose adding more trained volunteers and working with area nonprofits to get students the attention they need and deserve. Working together, we can close the achievement gap and create strong futures for our students.
